Today’s expression is どこか(DOKOKA).
DOKO means ‘where’ but DOKOKA means ‘somewhere’. This rule applies to any other question words and it is handy to know!

Let us show you an example from manga.

どこか is made from 3 hiraganas, (と 、こ、か)so it is not too difficult to write DOKOKA in hiragana♪

(DO)needs 2 dots at top right of と(TO).
TO
KO
KA

どこ(DOKO) means ‘where’ but どこか(DOKOKA) means ‘somewhere’. どこに いきますか?(Doko ni ikimasu ka?)- Where are you going?
(Dokoka ni ikimasu ka?)- Are you going somewhere?

だれ(DARE) means ‘who’ but だれか(DAREKA) means ‘someone’.
(Dare ga ikimasu ka?)- Who is going?
(Dareka ikimasu ka?)- Is anyone going?

いつ(ITSU) means ‘when’ but いつか(ITSUKA) means ‘sometime’.
(Itsu ikimasu ka?)- When are you going?
(Itsuka ikimasu ka?)- Are you going sometime?

Let’s make some sentences using DOKOKA or DAREKA or ITSUKA.

(Dokoka atatakai kuni ni ikitai desu.)
I want to go somewhere nice and warm.

(Dareka himana hito to isshoni ikimasu.)
I am going with someone who has free time.

(Itsuka dareka to atatakai basho ni ishoni ikitai desu.)
I want to go somewhere nice and warm with someone who has free time.
